Briefing

Task

We are looking for feasible, implementable and innovative solutions answering the following questions:

  • "How to position the region of Kitzbühel as an attractive workplace for Gen Z graduates?"
  • "How can we make the region of Kitzbühel an attractive year-round destination for GEN Z graduates to live and work?"
  • "How might we help companies in the region to gain young academics as their employees?"

These are the main points we have identified in our investigation of the problem:

  • High living costs/rents for apartments
  • Lack of career opportunities
  • Image of a hotspot for high society
  • Insufficient public transportation
  • Lack of attractive city offerings

Context

Kitzbühel as a region with an economic focus on tourism and trade is currently facing skill shortages, e.g. a lack of graduates due to the geographical distance from universities. Therefore the “Innovationsnetzwerk Kitzbühel”, “RegioTech” and “Wirtschaftskammer Tirol'' decided to partner up with the University of Innsbruck to foster innovative solutions tackling this issue through different means. Master students of the University of Innsbruck conducted interviews with the target group and did a Netnography to identify the needs, thoughts and pain points of Gen Z and synthesized the results. At this point the project is now entering the solution space where we are looking for feasible and innovative concepts and ideas. Therefore, we want you as part of our crowd to contribute your thoughts and external perspectives to this project.

Background Information

Beforehand the Master students of the University of Innsbruck conducted interviews to explore local companies’ experience and expectation about Gen Z as future employees and to identify the Gen Z’s needs with regard to their workplace.

We identified the following insights from the interviews with people of the Gen Z:

  • Need for a flexible job
  • Demand for a better infrastructure
  • Importance of leisure activities
  • Open minded community
  • Negatively framed image of the region of Kitzbühel (destination for luxury vacation)

We identified the following insights from the interviews with local companies:

  • A lot of companies are offering trainings for their employees
  • Friendly and open minded people in the region of Kitzbühel
  • High costs of living
  • Need for young employees and trainees
